And on the other side of the fashion spectrum:
What's up with Laura Bush? No matter what the occasion, she always looks like she should be wearing an oven mitt. The purple plaid suit she wore for her White House tea with Hillary on Monday made her look more like a love seat than a first lady.
Maybe she didn't hire a fashion consultant for fear she would jinx W's already precarious victory.
But her husband won, and the first lady needs help.
"I'm not suggesting that she get all hoochied up," said Samantha [von Sperling], a social image consultant in Boston. "She is the first lady. But I think she should show her neck on occasion."
[Samantha von Sperling] did sympathize with Bush. After all, the first lady is always under a lot of scrutiny, and a buttoned-up, nondescript look is safe.
"I understand that she has to stay conservative, but as it is now, she almost disappears on camera,"she said. "And she can't do it alone. She should get some advice."
[Samantha von Sperling] suggested Bush wear earthy tones, bigger, brighter earrings and show a little skin. She cautioned against wearing red or bright blue.
"And do not take advice from your mother-in-law," she said.
